Healthy Choices

Mission

Healthy Choices committees are now active at all four high schools as well as at the District level. Developed for teens, parents and the overall community, Healthy Choices committees encourage open communication, education and implementation of programs that promote wellness, seeking various ways to bring information to parents and students in hopes of encouraging them to make healthy choices not only for themselves, but for our entire community. The committees work to build a culture of health by providing opportunities for students, parents and the community to learn about wellness, thereby developing the ability to make choices that will enhance their well-being.

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in the Campolindo Healthy Choices Committee. We hope to bring activities that will help our students make better choices for their health and safety and to bring awareness to the parents about the challenges that our children face in making these choices. As with any program, we will only be as good as the volunteer effort, and the more of you that help out, the less work there is for everyone!

The committee holds monthly meetings in the conference room across from the Principal’s office (see Meetings tab for 2009/2010 dates). We hope that most of you can attend. For those of you that can’t, please let us know what meeting times would work for you. We would like to be flexible in the scheduling of future dates to accommodate the maximum participation.

In the few years since the committee has been formed, we have provided drug and alcohol awareness programs for the students, hosted various safe driving events presenting real and simulated teen stories, and provided information on this website for parents regarding teen drinking and other relevant topics. We have also provided stress reduction tools for the students during finals weeks. We intend to continue providing programs emphasizing these issues.

Other programs we would like to develop with enough interest include liaisons with the middle schools’ health programs, Healthy Choices student committee, and nutrition and diet.

We look forward to meeting all of you and working to improve the quality of our students’ lives. Please feel free to let us know your interests and concerns as they relate to Healthy Choices.

Thank you,

Healthy Choices Co-Chairs
